A Book Date at Segui Beach: A Hidden Gem in Lombok

I had never visited Segui Beach before, even though it is located in the southern part of East Lombok. I first heard about this hidden gem from my aunt, who had been there before. After listening to her stories, I became curious and immediately added it to my bucket list.

The beaches along the southern coast of East Lombok have always been my favorite. They are peaceful, serene, and fortunately not too far from where I live.

Segui Beach, also known by locals as Pink Beach 2, is located not far from the more famous Pink Beach 1. The two beaches lie along the same stretch of coastline. Segui can also be reached by boat from Tanjung Luar, but when my best friend and I visited two months ago, we decided to ride a motorcycle instead. Looking back, that probably wasn't the best decision. The last two kilometers leading to the beach consisted of a rough, rocky road, making the journey quite challenging. I thanked my best friend who is expert in riding motorcycle.

Even so, once we arrived, every bit of that effort felt worthwhile. That said, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon unless the road is improved or unless we take an off-road vehicle.

Setting the unpaved road aside, Segui is arguably one of the most stunning coastlines in East Lombok, boasting a unique, soft pink hue to its sand. It is an idyllic spot for sunbathing or a family picnic, complete with waterfront gazebos for visitors. The beach is perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, or simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

The facilities were also better than I expected. There are gazebos facing the beach, clean toilets, and even a prayer room complete with clean prayer garments for Muslim visitors. In fact, I found the facilities here cleaner than those at Kura-Kura Beach.

Located in Jerowaru District, East Lombok, Segui Beach is about 20 kilometers from my home and takes roughly 40 minutes to an hour to reach. The main reason I came here was for a little book date. We packed some snacks, drinks, and fresh fruit before settling down by the beach. I spent about an hour sunbathing while reading my book, occasionally looking up to admire the endless blue sea and sky. There was something incredibly calming about reading with nothing but the sound of gentle waves. It brought a sense of unmatched bliss.

I would love to return someday. My only hope is that the local government will invest more in improving the road access. Segui Beach is already attracting many international visitors, and it deserves infrastructure that matches its natural beauty. With better roads, more people could experience this remarkable hidden gem without the difficult journey overshadowing an otherwise unforgettable destination. Segui is a magnificent hidden gem, it would be a shame if its legacy became defined by its inaccessible roads.
